History

Ilya DIMITRIJEVIC (Voice and guitar) and Boris MIKULIC (Keyboards and electronics) met each other at the University of Ljubljana (Yugoslavia) where Ilya studied social sciences and Boris computer sciences. They started out by making music for theatre productions. After two years of doing this, they founded IN SOTTO VOCE. They gave up studying and Ilya became a D.J. in the "Draga Grad" new wave club where he came in contact with a lot of Belgian electronic stuff.

They aren't influenced by LAÏBACH or BORGHESIA, but rather by Belgian acts such as FRONT 242, MEN 2ND, THE NEON JUDGEMENT and POESIE NOIRE.

This doesn't mean that they aren't interested in politics. IN SOTTO VOCE concentrates on repression, isolation, humiliation, tortur in communist prisons ... Howewer they aren't again communism, for they truly believe in a perfect marxist-influenced society. IN SOTTO VOCE lets your brain dance, provided if you have one.

In fact, it was Jo CASTERS (Ilya) from POESIE NOIRE and Herman GILLIS (Boris), founder of Antler-Subway label, in response to a belgian journalist who found POESIE NOIRE too "poppy".
